Man City tells Leicester their stance on transfer move for future star’s move to King Power Stadium amid connection between Peo Guardiola and Enzo Maresca.
Leicester City could benefit from the connection with Manchester City in the January transfer window, with Pep Guardiola planning to send a new signing on loan to City, according to reports.
Enzo Maresca joined City in the summer after helping Man City to win the treble last season as assistant manager. He used his connections in the summer to bring Callum Doyle on loan, the defender is currently out with injury but is stepping up his comeback.
According to the Sun , Man City are ‘closing in’ on the January signing of Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco. If they complete a deal, then it is planned that he will join City on loan in order to increase his experience.
The 19-year-old has impressed in Argentina this season, making a total of 31 appearances. He played 78 minutes of the Copa Libertadores final earlier this month, as his side fell to a 2-1 loss against Fluminense after extra time.
Barco has mostly been used at left midfield this season but is able to play in any position down the left, or even in central midfield. City could target a player to play in the left-back/ left centre-back hybrid role in January, given Doyle’s injury, if the teenager would be able to play that role is still to be seen.
Man City are said to have edged ahead of Brighton in the race for Barco, with the player set to cost a fee of around £13 million. The report also adds that the plan would still be to send him out on loan to City, even if the move to the Etihad Stadium is delayed until the summer window.
Maresca was close to completing another loan signing from Man City in the summer, with James McAtee visiting the club’s Seagrave training ground. But, he ended up joining former loan club Sheffield United following their promotion to the Premier League.
That has opened up a space for another loan signing from Man City in January. Championship clubs are able to have a maximum of seven loan players in their squad (although only five are permitted in the matchday squad). Clubs are able to sign four players on loan from the same club, as long as at least two of those players are under the age of 23.
