Reports have abound that West Ham have no money to spend in the January transfer window due to being on UEFA’s FFP watchlist.

Many West Ham fans feel the club needs to sign a striker and a left-back in the winter window.

There is renewed confidence in West Ham’s recruitment among the fanbase with transfers being headed up by technical director Tim Steidten and majority owner David Sullivan alongside Moyes. Sporting director Mark Noble also has an input.

So reports claiming there’s no money to spend due to FFP have left many supporters frustrated.

But that has been described exclusively to Hammers News as being only ‘partially’ true.

And the issue with making signings is as much about squad space as it is raising funds to satisfy FFP.

“Partially true (regarding selling to buy due to UEFA’s FFP rules),” the top source told Hammers News.

“We also have no slots.

“We need to move players to create a slot/raise funds.

“Another problem is we lose three to four players to the African Nations and some of the players we are looking at are also going to the African Nations.”

Fans will be reassured that the club is intending to try and make signings. And it is interesting to hear talents from Africa are being targeted.

But it seems fringe players will have to be moved on in order to do that.

That is often easier said than done. However West Ham do have a number of players who could be moved on without unduly affecting the first team.
