John Wenham has described the loss of “star player” Mikey Moore as a “huge blow” for the Tottenham Under-18s ahead of their FA Youth Cup campaign getting underway.
Moore has been in scintillating form for Spurs’ Under-18s this season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in seven Under-18 Premier League South appearances.
In addition to this, the 16-year-old has been starring internationally as well, recently hitting a hattrick for England Under-17s against Croatia. However, as exclusively revealed by Wenham via his official X platform Lilywhite Rose (27 November), the winger has picked up an injury that could keep him out until after the New Year.
Wenham has detailed just how much of a loss this is for the club, especially with their FA Youth Cup campaign set to get underway next week.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Moore has no doubt been the star player for the Under-18s this season, he is now going to be out for six weeks, so that’s a huge blow.
“The FA Youth Cup third-round tie away at Brentford is coming up on Tuesday 5 December, so to be without Moore for that game is such a kick in the teeth because I thought this team would go very far in the Youth Cup this year.
“Losing Moore is the equivalent of the first team losing James Maddison, he is that important.
“Nonetheless, others are stepping up and have been scoring in recent weeks, so we have got options within the squad.
“Brentford have only recently re-established their academy having abandoned it to play with a B-team setup, so we should be looking to take full advantage of that and aiming to progress to round four.”
