Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that the scan on defender Takehiro Tomiyasu does not look good as he faces a spell on the sidelines.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is facing an injury lay-off having damaged his calf during Arsenal’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
That is according to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who has spoken to the London Evening Standard following Tuesday’s win over Luton Town.
The Gunners appeared to be heading for a 3-3 draw at Kenilworth Road before Declan Rice popped up with a dramatic last-gasp winner.
It’s another late goal for Arsenal and another three points, with Arteta’s men now five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu ‘out for a while’:
Arsenal fans are probably still in celebratory mood but it’s not all good news for Arteta right now.
Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu missed the trip to Luton having been substituted with an injury against Wolves on Saturday.
Whilst initially thought to be a precaution, Tomiyasu is now facing a spell on the sidelines.
Arteta has told the London Evening Standard that Tomiyasu has a calf injury which has now been scanned.
Arteta claims it’s ‘not good news’ and Tomiyasu will now be out ‘for a while’, leading Arsenal down another defender.
“We had a scan and it’s not good news,” said Arteta. “He’s got an injury in his calf and he’s going to be out for a while,” he added.
Jurrien Timber is already out following a major injury on the first day of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign.
That was a huge blow given Timber’s versatility to play across the back four, and the same goes for Tomiyasu.
We have seen the Japan international feature at right back and left back, whilst he even played as a centre back for former club Bologna.
That flexibility will be a big miss for Arsenal and Arteta will hope to see him make a full recovery and return at some point before the end of the season.
