“I have a feeling that…” – Sentimental Paul Merson predicts Newcastle Vs Tottenham scoreline at the weekend after Spurs horrible defeat at home to West Ham

Things do not get any easier for Newcastle United following their defeat to Everton.

Next up is a trip to Tottenham Hotspur, with the Magpies’ awful away record set to be put to the test once again.

It is a quick turnaround too, with Newcastle playing on Thursday and Sunday as if they were in the Europa League.

It is the same situation for Spurs, who also lost on Thursday night. Despite taking the lead, they were beaten 2-1 at home by West Ham United.

After a bright start to the season, Ange Postecoglu’s side are struggling. They have their own injury problems right now, and are currently five Premier League games without a win.

Luckily for them, they are about to play a team with even more injuries than them that has only won one Premier League game on the road all season.

It is going to be a very interesting game, and it is one that Paul Merson has predicted Spurs to win.

Paul Merson predicts Newcastle will lose against Tottenham on Sunday:

In his latest column for Sportskeeda, Merson has predicted that Tottenham will beat Newcastle 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

“Much like the previous game, this is a hard one to call as it depends on what happens between West Ham and Tottenham. That said, I just have a feeling Ange Postecoglou’s side will nick this one,” he wrote.

“Newcastle have been outstanding so far, but most of their players are playing out of their skins, so I think things will catch up with them sooner or later. The Magpies have a UEFA Champions League clash against AC Milan coming up too, so they’ll have one eye on that game as they are still in with a chance of making it through to the knockout stages.

“They don’t have their destiny in their own hands, so they’ll have to secure a win against the Serie A giants and hope Borussia Dortmund do them a favor against Paris Saint-Germain, so it’ll be an interesting one to keep an eye out for.

“Spurs are on a bit of a bad run, but something tells me they’ll show up and record a narrow 2-1 win.”

Tottenham will want revenge against Newcastle after last season:

Back-to-back defeats would be hard to stomach, while it would not be ideal preparation for next week’s crunch Champions League encounter with AC Milan.

Newcastle’s squad is tired, yet there is no time to rest. Their trip to Goodison Park did not go to plan at all, and Eddie Howe’s side must improve at Spurs.

They won at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, picking up a vital three points that really made rivals start to pay attention.

Now Newcastle’s ability is no secret, and Spurs will be out for revenge after the Magpies did the double over them during the 2022/23 campaign.

Merson is expecting a tight game, but he believes it will be Postecoglu who will be celebrating at full time. Here’s hoping he’s wrong – just like he was about Newcastle’s game against Everton.
