“He lacked Respect” – Angry Callum Wilson couldn’t hold back his emotions, explains WHY he slammed Spurs key man after defeat to Tottenham

Callum Wilson slammed the behaviour of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after Spurs beat Newcastle 4-1 on Sunday.

Newcastle striker Wilson was involved in a heated exchange with Spurs’ Vicario after the full-time whistle, and later revealed he was unhappy with the goalkeeper’s behaviour. The Italian appeared to goad Wilson when he comfortably saved the striker’s header in the closing minutes of the match.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Newcastle in north London as goals from Destiny Udogie, Richarlison and Son Heung-min condemned them to a second heavy defeat in three days. The Magpies lost 3-0 to Everton on Thursday, and after that match, Wilson was unhappy with the celebrations of Toffees ‘keeper Jordan Pickford.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the Spurs match, Wilson said: “There’s a way to win isn’t there? I think we’ve seen it in the week when Everton were winning and Pickford was messing around.

“The goalkeeper [Vicario], for the header he starts pulling faces and messing around, it was a lack of respect I thought. But I said my piece, we’re grown men and we move on.”

Wilson and his team-mates will have to get this defeat out of their systems quickly. On Wednesday, they will take on AC Milan at St James’ Park, a match they must win if they are to have any hope of reaching the last-16 of the Champions League.
