Unbelievably Sentimental English pundit who dislikes Tottenham like Gary Neville overlooks brilliant Spurs Win at Forest, hails VAR decision to send off Yves Bissouma after 2 nil win

Jamie Carragher praised VAR for working at its best after Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma was sent off on video for a dangerous tackle at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest.

Referee Jarred Gillet showed Bissouma a straight red card after he crashed into Ryan Yates following a pass and caught the Forest captain.

The combative Tottenham player recklessly stepped in and caught Yates high on the leg, and VAR ruled with a simple check that Bissouma should have been given his marching orders early.

Carragher – like many – has been critical of VAR this season but praised his intervention in reducing Ange Postecoglou’s side to 10 men on Friday night.

Commentating on the match for Sky Sports, Carragher said: ‘He’ll do well to avoid that. He’s leaving.

‘I think the only thing you think about is that it’s definitely a red card, the big thing you can look at is the actual force. And there’s no doubt that force was present.

‘Listen, we have VAR for this, and they are doing their best, but sometimes it will be difficult to see. If you’re a referee, it happens so fast that you try to see it in real time.

‘It’s high, there’s excessive force. You don’t want to see that. I mean, he shakes his head, but he knows that he knows,” he added.
