Despite the positive steps Tottenham Hotspur have made under new boss Ange Postecoglou, the Greek and the Australian are clearly aware that further reinforcements will be needed in the new year if this momentum is to be maintained.
The former Celtic coach has only recently admitted that a new centre-back will be needed due to the lack of strength behind Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, with long-time mainstay Eric Dier seemingly not a suitable choice.
However, it is not only the back line that will need to be improved in the winter window, but the front line will also need to be strengthened after the loss of Harry Kane in the summer.
With that in mind – and with the previous success of bringing in Dejan Kulushevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Serie A – the north Londoners could look to Italy again to acquire Genoa sensation Albert Gudmundsson.

It was reported at the beginning of November that Spurs were among the clubs interested in the Icelandic talent, with former Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho also said to be monitoring the player at AS Roma.
The 26-year-old moved to Italy in the summer of 2022 and has just under three years left on his existing contract, meaning Postecoglou and co may have to fork out a significant sum for his signature.
According to the CIES Football Observatory, he is currently worth just €15 million (£13 million), but if a sum close to that value can be agreed next month, the Premier Leaguers could strike a real bargain.
Albert Gudmundsson’s style of play:
The 6ft midfielder has proved to be a great player for his current team recently, but he is not the high-profile reinforcement Spurs would have liked.
He usually plays in midfield or on the flanks, but this season he has scored eight goals in just 16 games in all competitions, bringing his tally to 23 goals and six assists in 66 games for Genoa.
His teammate Kevin Strootman even compared Gudmundsson’s explosive form in Italy to that of Mohamed Salah, who played alongside him at Roma before the Egyptian’s Liverpool exploits.
