Argentine journalist Damian Rancez says that River Plate will try to sign Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz on loan in the January transfer window.
Veliz shot to fame with his performances in the Argentine Primera Division for Rosario Central earlier this year, which led Tottenham to pay £12 million for the centre-forward last summer.
The 20-year-old hasn’t had many chances to impress at the north London club, having featured as a substitute in all six of his Premier League appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s team so far (Transfermarkt).
In the last few weeks, several Italian media have hinted that Bologna, who were beaten by Spurs in the battle for the striker last summer, could try to sign the youngster on loan next month (1000 Cuori Rossoblu).
Could Veliz leave Spurs in January?
Rancez has now raised the possibility that Veliz could return to his homeland as a loan player just six months after arriving in the Premier League.
The journalist revealed that River Plate are obsessed with the idea of signing the Argentina Under-20 international in next month’s transfer window.
Rancez told El Crack Deportivo Noticias: “The number nine that everyone is crazy about and that River want to bring from England is Veliz. They know it’s complicated, but they will try a loan from Tottenham, where he wants to play, to be in the Argentina national team.”
I think Tottenham would be willing to loan Veliz in January so that the striker can get some competitive minutes. However, I very much doubt that the club would want to loan him back to Argentina.
They would probably like to send him to one of the top leagues in Europe or maybe even to another Championship league to get used to the intensity and physicality of the English game along with Jamie Donley, who also recently made his debut.
