Tottenham Hotspur seem to have a realistic chance of signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todiba in the January transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou is hoping for a late Christmas present at Tottenham Hotspur – a new central defender.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are a solid duo when available, providing on-the-ball ability and pace when returning to Postecoglou’s high line.
The problem is that Romero is prone to red cards and Van de Ven is currently injured, revealing Tottenham’s lack of depth.

Jean-Clair Todibo open to Tottenham Hotspur transfer:
Earlier in the week it was reported that Tottenham were in talks with representatives of Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Fabrizio Romano added on Wednesday that Tottenham were also in talks with Nice to agree a transfer.
90min now adds that Todibo and his representatives are now open to working with Tottenham.
Nico is thought to have left Todibo for around £35m and agents have reportedly told Tottenham to go ahead with the transfer.
Todibo being interested in a transfer is a big boost for Tottenham and gives Spurs realistic hope of getting a deal done in January – especially with so much competition around.
Liverpool could miss out on Todibo:
The London Evening Standard claimed in November that Liverpool and Manchester United were interested in Todiba.
Liverpool have lost defender Joel Matip to injury until the end of the season and the Reds may have to bring in another central defender in 2024.
Whether this will be a priority is not yet known, but the same is true for United as Erik ten Hag already has several central defenders at his disposal.
Tottenham may consider January the right time to buy Todib, while Liverpool and United may be more inclined to make a summer purchase.
