Jamie Carragher says West Ham fans can’t have their cake and eat it with David Moyes while being scolded for their approach.
Many outside West Ham simply cannot believe that David Moyes’ future is in doubt.
And given what Moyes has achieved since returning to the club four years ago, it’s not hard to see why.
West Ham have finished sixth, seventh and currently eighth under Moyes’ leadership after a poor Premier League season last year.
Of course, the club redeemed itself by winning its first trophy in 43 years.
West Ham finished in the top 16 of European football for the third time in a row.

However, there is no hiding the fact that a large section of West Ham fans want a more modern, forward-thinking and attack-minded manager to succeed Shooto when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Many Kladivar supporters felt that Moyes had woken up and smelt the coffee on the team’s approach after they left behind a 5-0 defeat to Fulham and won with style and substance in impressive performances against Freiburg and Wolves.
The manager angered the fans when he picked a weakened team in the Carabao Cup quarter-final in Liverpool. And when the result was another negative approach and a 5-1 defeat, the disappointment only increased.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher always speaks well of West Ham. He knows the club well and respects its tradition and fan base.
However, Carragher says that West Ham fans cannot have their cake and eat it too with Moyes.
As for the style criticism, Carragher said he understood it but called for realism.
“Listen, in terms of David Moyes, the only slight disappointment West Ham might have – certainly when they look at some of the players they have in the team like (Mohamed) Kudus, who is a new signing, (Lucas) Paqueta – they’ll say to themselves that we could be a little bit more up front or we could be playing a little bit better football,” Carragher said.
“But I don’t necessarily agree with that. Every fan wants everything – you want great results, you want great football, you want your team to be hard to beat – as a manager it’s hard to tick all the boxes.
“I think the first time he was there the club brought (Manuel) Pellegrini in and it went horribly wrong. And for West Ham, who year after year in European football, I’m not sure there’s anything better … I say he is playing European football, but it must be added that he has won a European trophy. So many clubs in the Premier League would swap places with West Ham.”
West Ham fans would counter Carragher’s thoughtful and well-argued opinion by pointing to Aston Villa, Brighton, Spurs and Bayer Leverkusen, to name but a few, who are playing fantastic football and getting results.
