Tottenham Hotspur are among the top four teams in the Premier League after a thrilling encounter with Everton.
Richarlison opened the scoring against his former club with his fourth goal in three games and Son Heung-min doubled Spurs’ lead soon after.
Everton deservedly got a goal back through Andre Gomes, who was playing in the Premier League for the first time since May 2022.
Spurs finished in fourth place, ahead of Manchester City, who did not play in the league due to the Club World Cup.
Everton ended a four-game winning streak with the defeat and remain just four points above the relegation zone.
Brazilian Richarlison put the hosts in front after just nine minutes when he headed Brennan Johnson’s low ball into the net at the near post.
Soon after, Son doubled Spurs’ advantage, with Johnson playing a key role. The Welshman took a short corner and fired in a powerful shot, but Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford parried the ball away.
The ball fell to Son, who pushed it into the net, but Pickford was caught in a crowd of players and couldn’t intervene.
Everton showed plenty of attacking intent in an exciting game and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored five minutes after half-time, a goal which was overturned by the video referee after a foul by Gomes on Emerson Royal in stoppage time.
Gomes, who was on loan at Lille last season but then injured his calf, provided a magnificent finish with a fine volley in the 82nd minute but Spurs held on.
