Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Jean-Claire Todiba in the upcoming transfer window, but OGC Nice will try to make life difficult for him
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in OGC Nice defender Jean-Claire Todiba in the upcoming transfer window, according to Football.London, but it seems that the parent club will try to make the transfer a bit more difficult.
Nice may wait for the summer bidding battle for the young French international, who is considered one of the biggest young defensive prospects in Europe. The best teams from the continent and the Premier League are competing for his services.
This season, the French international has made 14 appearances, started all of them and contributed one assist. He also has two caps for the national team. He made his debut against Germany in September and played against Gibraltar in November.
Todibo has been one of their bright spots and they are currently only five points behind PSG in Ligue 1. This makes a possible January departure all the more frustrating for them and their fans. The talented Frenchman would be a valuable asset for Tottenham, especially with the absence of star defender Micky van de Ven due to a hamstring injury.
For Tottenham, who are looking to strengthen their defence in January, this is terrible news. The north Londoners are unlikely to have an easy job reaching an agreement, although they have started talks with Nice about the player.
In addition, Tottenham would find it difficult to reach the price that Nice is asking and could end up losing out. Ange Postecolou has two reliable centre-backs, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. An injury to the latter has exposed Tottenham’s shortcomings in defence, and the team has consequently missed out on a perfect start to the 2023-24 Premier League season.
This season, Postecoglou’s Spurs have offered their revitalised fans some reasons to rejoice. If the Australian is given the backing to create the ideal atmosphere that will propel the team to new heights, there is every chance of a very happy New Year.
