Leicester City have reportedly identified Black Stars centre-forward Pierre Dwomoh as a possible replacement for Wilfried Ndidi, whose time at the club is coming to an end.
According to Italian media reports via Caughtoffside, the Championship champions are said to be targeting the 19-year-old as a replacement for their veteran centre-forward.
Dwomoh is currently on loan to Belgian side RWD Molenbeek from Royal Antwerp and has played 21 games during that period, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist.
Ndidi is in the final months of his contract with Leicester City and there is no indication that he is ready to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium beyond his next transfer.
A number of clubs, including Barcelona and Sevilla, are aware of the 27-year-old’s situation and are considering the possibility of acquiring his signature.
He was linked with a move away from the club in the last transfer window, but in the end he stayed put and played an important role in their quest to return to the Premier League.
The Nigerian international has made 22 appearances and scored 10 goals in all competitions this term.
Wilfred Ndidi reportedly remains on the radar of Spanish giants Barcelona.
The well-known Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, via Fichajes, states that the Leicester City ace is among the ten midfield players being monitored by Barcelona to sign them next summer at no cost and perhaps even negotiate a transfer in the January market.
Ndidi joins Tomas Soucek (West Ham), Pablo Fornals (West Ham), Jorginho (Arsenal), Thiago (Liverpool), Marten de Roon (Atalanta), Daichi Kamada (Lazio), Piotr Zielinski (Napoli), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) and Guido RodrÃguez (Real Betis) on the list of central outfield players being monitored by Barcelona.
The Blaugrana has well-documented financial problems, with expenditure not matching income, and must turn to the free agent market to strengthen the squad.
Although Ndidi is playing in the Championship, he is probably having the best season of his career under Enzo Maresco, who has turned him from a central defender into a boxer.
The change of position has been effective as Ndidi has scored ten goals in 22 appearances this season.
The 27-year-old has been playing continuously with the Foxes since January 2017, when he was bought from Racing Genk, and his contract expires on 30 June 2024.
He is expected to join the Super Eagles squad in the first week of January for a training camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
