David Moyes reveals what the West Ham players chanted in the dressing room after the win over Arsenal.
West Ham went out on a high in their last game of 2023, recording their third consecutive Premier League victory, this time away at Arsenal.
It was a Declan Rice derby, but the former Hammers captain put in his worst performance for Arsenal to date as David Moyes’ men won 2-0.
It was the 32nd win in a year in which West Ham memorably ended a 43-year trophy drought.
Moyes on what the players were chanting in the dressing room:
It was Arsenal’s first home defeat this season. For West Ham, it was their first win at the Emirates since the Farewell Boleyn campaign in 2015.
West Ham had to do it without their captain and star defender Kurt Zouma – as well as his central defensive partner Nayef Aguero – while talisman Lucas Paqueta was injured in the warm-up and limped off in the first half.
After the game, James Ward-Prowse revealed that he and his teammates missed Zouma, but not just on the pitch.
He revealed that after big wins, the Frenchman usually keeps chanting to manager Moyes to take time off.
Moyes, in turn, revealed what the West Ham players were chanting in the dressing room after the win over Arsenal.
“They were chanting that (‘two days off’) in the dressing room when I came in, you know how it is,” Moyes said with a smile on Amazon Prime Video Sport.
“I told the staff to sort it out.”
Alan Shearer then interjected and said, “That’s a no then”, to which Moyes laughed and said, “No” – suggesting his players might get their wish.
They certainly deserved it – every last bit of it. Moyes got involved.
