West Ham manager David Moyes reveals that he is preparing to talk to the club’s board about a new contract.
Moyes’ current contract expires at the end of the season and he wants to extend his stay at West Ham beyond 2023, which he described as “incredible” for the club.
The highlight of the calendar year for the Kladivars was undoubtedly winning the Europa League Conference as they lifted their first major trophy since 1980.
West Ham ended 2023 with a hugely impressive 2-0 away win at Arsenal, and Moyes’ team finished sixth in the Premier League with a superb defence.
Moyes told Amazon Prime: “We’re preparing for a conversation, I don’t think any of us are jumping to get it too soon. I don’t see any problems.
Moyes reflected on a great year for West Ham and also spoke highly of the players who came to the club in the summer, with those signings making sure they weren’t too affected by Declan Rice’s departure to Arsenal.
Moyes said, “Football is played in different ways and today was a great defensive performance. Sometimes you have to watch how you play teams. We did a great job to stop them scoring.
“It was the last game of 2023, it’s been an incredible year for West Ham. I think we sold one of our best players to Arsenal as well.
‘I guess all managers live or die by their recruitment. I think the new guys we brought in, Kudus has been great, Alvarez is doing a good defensive job for us.
Moyes, who initially managed the club between November 2017 and May 2018, returned to West Ham in December 2019.
Although he has been criticised by some West Ham supporters, Moyes has been largely praised for his work, particularly for his team’s progression through the Europa League group stage.
