Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed during a discussion about the future of Chelsea’s Malanga Sarra that he heard that Conor Gallagher, who is expected to be a Spurs target, will leave Stamford Bridge in January.
The speculation about Gallagher’s future seems a bit confusing, as the central midfielder has started all but one Premier League game for Mauricio Pochettino’s men this season (Transfermarkt) and has even worn the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chillwell.
However, various media outlets have confirmed that the Blues are ready to sell the centre-forward and use the funds to sign the striker (Daily Mail), while Spurs are said to be ready to make a move for the 23-year-old after a failed summer transfer (talkSPORT).
Pochettino himself dropped a big hint regarding the England international last week when he suggested that he would not be able to sell the midfielder in the future (The Independent).
Meanwhile, Spurs’ interest in Gallagher was confirmed a few days ago by Fabrizio Romano, who stated that it was Ange Postecoglou himself who led the north London club’s pursuit of the player (Daily Briefing).

Robinson has now seemingly provided some inside information on Gallagher, stating that he has heard that the centre outside midfielder is on his way out of his club.
Asked about speculation about Malang Sarr’s future, the former Spurs first-teamer told Football Insider: “If you look at how many loan players he’s had and how many first-team opportunities he hasn’t got, it’s time for him to go,” he said.
“Yes, he came in with high expectations, but with a new manager now trying to create a new style, he seems to be a victim of the amount of personnel in the squad.
“If you didn’t get a chance to play before all this happened, and now all these players are here and you’re still not playing, then it’s probably time for him to move on, and Chelsea will try to sell him.
“I’ve heard about the possible departure and move of Conor Gallagher, who has played most of the games this season. So if they are potentially going to be looking at players like that, then obviously the writing is on the wall for him.”
It is not clear whether Robinson was relaying any inside information he had heard about Gallagher or whether he was just mentioning what he had read in the press.
In any case, it seems pretty clear that Chelsea are willing to sell the 23-year-old if his price is reached, and I don’t think Tottenham will want to miss out on the chance to sign the central midfielder.
