Tottenham are reportedly in talks with Chelsea to sign Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window.
Spurs were keen to sign Gallagher in the summer transfer window, but although Chelsea were ready to agree a deal, no agreement could be reached by the deadline.
The 23-year-old has been one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most prominent players this season and Chelsea have faced strong calls from their supporters to keep the centre-forward at Stamford Bridge.
However, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Tottenham have renewed negotiations with Chelsea and are hoping to seal a £35 million deal at the start of the next transfer window.
Spurs will lose two key central midfielders, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, after Sunday’s game against Bournemouth as they play in the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on January 13.
Tottenham are also open to selling Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has attracted interest from Juventus and Napoli, although Juve are also in talks with Manchester City over the signing of Calvin Phillips.
Spurs are also looking for a new central defender after the injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and there have also been talks to buy Jean-Clair Todib from Nice and Romanian international Radu Dragusin from Genoa.
Ahead of Spurs’ clash with Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve, Postecoglou played down expectations ahead of the January transfer deadline.
“We are where we are. Nothing magical will happen in the January transfer window. What we have to do is keep building,” Postecoglou said.
“We had one window with this team to change it and do things differently. The fact that we are in the position we are in is a credit to the players. With all the challenges we have had, we have planned ahead and that is what we will do.
“We will see what we can do in January, but in the end it is about putting together a team that will get us where we want to be.
