Hugo Lloris concludes his Tottenham career with a free transfer to Los Angeles FC. Lloris, who signed for Spurs in 2012 and made 447 Premier League appearances for the club, has not played since April after expressing his desire for a new challenge.
Ange Postecoglou approved Lloris’s departure this summer, and although no transfer materialized, Tottenham initiated talks with Major League Soccer this week, resulting in the veteran goalkeeper’s departure.
Lloris will bid farewell to the fans at half-time during Tottenham’s home game against Bournemouth on Sunday.
This marks another changing of the guard at the north London club after record goalscorer Harry Kane left in August. Spurs acquired Lloris in 2012 from Lyon, and he became a mainstay, serving as captain under Mauricio Pochettino and leading the team to two League Cup finals and the 2019 Champions League final, along with several top-four finishes.
The 37-year-old last played for Tottenham in April during a 6-1 defeat at Newcastle, where he was substituted at half-time due to a thigh injury.
The departure of Ivan Perisic from Tottenham and the possibility of his return to Hajduk Split is a move that suits all parties, according to Paul Robinson.
A source close to Perisic informed Tottenham News that the 34-year-old Croatian winger will return to his homeland in the summer and rejoin his boyhood club.
Perisic, unavailable to manager Angelo Postecoglou due to a serious knee injury in September, may have played his last game for the club.
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Robinson believes Perisic’s move is inevitable and a return to Croatia makes sense for all involved.
Speaking to Tottenham News, he said, “‘Robinišić is in a position at the moment where he’s been in the game, he’s been in the game: ‘He’s been badly injured this season, he’s missed a big chunk of this season and he’s going to miss more.
“To do it at this stage of his career is exactly what it is, it’s a win-win move. If you look at the way Anže is playing, you wonder where he would be at.
“He doesn’t play with wing-backs, full-backs do press high up, but they are not stand-out wing-backs. Perisic is a wing-back or an attacking left-back; look at the players Tottenham have in that attacking left and right. I wouldn’t touch the starting eleven now for the players they have.
“I think this move makes sense for both sides given the player’s age, the injuries he’s had, and given where both teams are.”
