Hugo Lloris leaves Tottenham to join Los Angeles FC of Major League Soccer.
The 37-year-old former France international spent more than 11 years in north London after arriving from Lyon in August 2012, keeping 151 clean sheets in 447 appearances in all competitions.
Lloris achieved great success with Les Bleus, lifting the World Cup trophy as captain in 2018, before retiring last January – he will now continue his glittering career in California.
The transfer of Hugo Lloris from Tottenham to LAFC was “ideal for everyone involved”, said Alan Hutton.
Spurs confirmed on 30 December that the France World Cup winner will leave north London to join MLS club LAFC after 11 years with the club.
Lloris made 447 appearances for the club during that time, establishing himself as Spurs’ modern-day giant and spending nine years as captain.
After Lloris announced his departure, there were many rumours of a summer departure and Ange Postecoglou brought in Guglielmo Vicario as the new first choice goalkeeper.
Speaking to Tottenham News, former Spurs defender Hutton is disappointed that things didn’t end better for Lloris, but is happy that a solution has finally been found for everyone involved.
“I think it’s a shame, but there was a lot of pressure on him before when he was in goal because of mistakes and different things,” he said.
“He had been at the club for a long time, he was captain. It’s a shame how it ended because you don’t want to remember him by the end, you want to remember him by what he did for the rest of his time at Tottenham.
“It’s not a surprise that he’s leaving, I think the bigger surprise is that he was still there during that period when he wasn’t playing.
“So for him to go to Los Angeles at his age is probably something he would have liked, his family would have liked that. It’s ideal for everybody involved.”
