Journalist Fabrizio Romano hinted that Arsenal could part ways with Aaron Ramsdale in the winter.
Aaron Ramsdale might want to leave Arsenal as soon as possible.
The goalkeeper has lost his regular place at the Emirates Stadium, with summer arrival David Raye now apparently Mikel Arteta’s first choice between the posts.
Ramsdale must feel hurt to have lost his number one spot. He admitted that he was hurt by the decision and Arteta was also criticised for his treatment of the England international.
Ramsdale was a key figure for the Gunners last season and received a lot of praise for his performances. Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson even described Ramsdale as an “incredible” goalkeeper in an interview with the Footballers’ Football Podcast.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper is certainly good enough to be the first choice of most Premier League clubs. He also needs to be playing regularly at this stage of his career if he is to have any chance of travelling to EURO 2024 this summer as a member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
Therefore, leaving Arsenal is probably in Ramsdale’s best interest at this point in time.
Should Arsenal sack Aaron Ramsdale?
Given this, Arteta has good reason to want to keep the player at least until the end of the current campaign. For a start, Ramsdale represents a high level backup player should Raya be absent for any reason.
In addition, Raya has not been entirely convincing since his arrival in the squad. There is still a possibility for Arteta to reintegrate Ramsdale if he loses patience with the Spaniard.
Of course, Ramsdale would also have to be replaced if he were to leave in the winter. Current third goalkeeper Karl Hein is not yet ready to replace Ramsdale and with the Gunners having to invest in other areas of the squad this January, replacing Ramsdale could be very avoidable.
At the same time, Fabrizio Romano believes that Ramsdale could still be shipped out of the Emirates Stadium if the right offer is made. In his Daily Briefing article, the journalist said: “There have been further reports about Aaron Ramsdale and a possible departure if a big offer comes in. It is certainly true that a big offer can always persuade clubs to sell players, especially if they are not rookies like Ramsdale. But for now, there are no big offers on the table, the situation is still calm. If they receive a big offer, the situation could change.”
It is clear that, given the current situation, Ramsdale is not expected to leave. But it would be a tempting proposition for a number of clubs, all of whom are aware of his unsettled status at Arsenal. These circumstances could soon encourage some interested parties to come forward.
