Tottenham Hotspur announce the signing of Swedish international Matilde Vinberg.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has committed herself to the club until 2026, having joined the club after her contract with Hammarby IF expired.
Born in Stockholm, Vinberg started her career at Enskede IK, where she made her debut at the age of 15.
Her talent blossomed at Hammarby, where she was named Damallsvenskan’s Breakthrough Player of the Year and Hammarby’s Player of the Year in 2022.
She played a key role in Hammarby’s double victory in 2023, winning the Swedish Cup and the Damallsvenskan title.
Vinberg, who made her debut for the Swedish senior club in November 2022, expressed her excitement about her new pathway in England. “It’s an amazing feeling to be here,” she said in her first interview with SPURSPLAY.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing in England. I feel really excited and ready for it.”
Vinberg, who acknowledges the influence of head coach Robert Villahamne on her decision, is optimistic about landing a Tottenham fit.
“I think this is the right step for me. I have big dreams and I hope to become one of the best. This is the best club I could be at right now,” she added.
Vinberg, who is known for her speed and technical ability, is looking forward to adapting to the physical and fast-paced nature of the English game. She sees similarities between Tottenham’s style and that of her former club Hammarby.
She could make her debut for Tottenham in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Sheffield United.
