TOTTENHAM is on the verge of signing Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig.
Florian Plettenburg of Sky Sports Germany reports that the deal to bring the German striker to North London on a six-month loan is almost done.
Spurs want to include a buy-back option in the loan, which is currently the last part of the negotiations.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the striker has reached a personal agreement with Tottenham – and has been left out of Leipzig’s friendly against St Gallen today.
RB Leipzig’s official account confirmed that he was left out of the squad in order to agree a transfer.
Werner spent two unsuccessful years as Chelsea’s first striker between 2020 and 2022.
Timo Werner has been left out of RB Leipzig’s squad for today’s game against St. Gallen as he closes in on a transfer to Tottenham.
This is according to journalist Philipp Hinze, who reports that the transfer is “in the pipeline” and that the two clubs are discussing the final details.
The journalist reports that Tottenham and Leipzig are finalising negotiations on a loan for the striker’s return to London and a possible purchase option that would be included in the deal, while the issue of his salary has already been resolved.
According to his and Sky’s information, Tottenham will pay Werner’s full salary during his loan period, which runs until the summer.
Werner has already verbally agreed a move with Spurs and if all goes according to plan, he could fly to London as early as tomorrow.
Tottenham are keen to bring him into their ranks as soon as possible and the deal is being facilitated by Ange Postecoglou, who is a “big supporter” of the transfer and “really wants” Werner in his squad by the end of the season.
So the deal is progressing rapidly, with only the final details being worked out now that the biggest hurdle, the striker’s wages, has been jumped relatively easily due to Tottenham’s willingness to pay.
