BBC pundit Stephen Kelly has named one striker who will help Arsenal after tonight’s defeat to Liverpool.
The Gunners are out of the FA Cup after a disastrous performance against Liverpool. The need for a striker was very evident tonight and Kelly believes Ivan Toney is the man who can solve our problems.
We can’t blame Mikel Arteta for Arsenal’s defeat today – his tactics created a lot of chances but the players didn’t take them.
Kai Havertz started up front today after Gabriel Jesus was declared unfit. The German played a very good game in terms of movement and positioning, but he didn’t do the most important thing – score.
Arsenal were so good until the final third that Havertz could have scored a hat-trick today. We should have been in sight in the first half, but we wasted all our chances.
Mikel Arteta asked Arsenal fans to stay behind the team when asked about signing a new striker this month. It’s a fair request, but we still need a new number nine.
Stephen Kelly believes that Ivan Toney is the man who can help us finish our chances.
Kelly told BBC Sport of Luis Diaz’s goal: “One more counter-attack, one more touch and boom! Luis Diaz scored without hesitation, Liverpool looked dangerous when he got the ball but Arsenal on the other hand were looking for the perfect goal.
“Ivan Toney would have helped this Arsenal team!”
Arsenal just need a new striker:
If Stan Kroenke gave £300 million to Mikel Arteta, we’re sure the Arsenal boss would strengthen three or four different parts of the pitch.
However, our recent performances have shown that if we only had a striker to finish off the chances created, we would win almost every game. That tells you which position we should strengthen this month.
Ivan Toney has divided opinion in recent weeks because of his age and the fact that he has not played football for more than six months. However, if he were to play for us today, we are sure he would score at least one goal, if not more.
We do not know what Edu and Arteta will do in the coming weeks, but if they do not find a solution, our season could be over in about a month.
