Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has personally called Tim Werner to sell him a transfer to Spurs.
Tottenham are said to have agreed a loan deal with RB Leipzig for Werner, which will include an option for Spurs to sign him permanently. Although some have doubts about the move due to Werner’s previous problems at Chelsea, manager Postecoglou has expressed confidence in the German player.
According to the German newspaper Lepiziger Volkszeitung, Postecoglou personally contacted Werner and they discussed his future at Tottenham. Postecoglou’s plans for Werner and the role he would play in the team made a positive impression on the player, and he is now ready for a transfer to Tottenham.
RB Leipzig also welcome the transfer as they have had difficulties integrating Werner into their squad this season despite his high wages. Werner has scored just two goals in 14 appearances and will be looking to rediscover his form at Tottenham.
Manchester United were linked with RB Leipzig’s on-loan striker Timo Werner in the January transfer window, but the Germany international will move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 27-year-old Werner has struggled for playing time in the Bundesliga this term. He started just two league games and was on the bench for all of the club’s Champions League matches.
This meant he became one of the few realistic options for United in the January window. The Reds are reportedly unable to sign players this month, so they have to focus on loans again.
Despite the links between the former Chelsea player and the Old Trafford club, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano has reportedly agreed a loan deal with Tottenham Hotspur, with the north London club having an option to buy the striker.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou believes his system will be “ideal” for Werner to prove himself, Fabrizio added, before explaining the reason why United backed out of a possible deal.
The transfer expert explained that the Old Trafford bosses decided not to sign the German because they are still not sure what kind of striker they want to add to their ranks this month.
