Tottenham’s January transfer deadline could be crucial to ensure a strong finish to an impressive Premier League season. Since joining the club, Ange Postecoglou has established a free-flowing, attacking style of play that has got on the nerves of opposing teams.
However, his tenure is still so early that there are still gaps in his squad, which are very rare due to injuries and suspensions. Tuchel said of the 2021 striker: “Timo played in his favourite position and he likes to play with Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic. He is connected to these players. He loves the double striker position, the half left striker position.
“This was an opponent where we could imagine that we would find spaces in the back, because it was a higher attacking opponent. To be honest, everything was in place for him to be able to fulfil his duties.”
Whether such a role can help Werner rediscover his best form for Tottenham remains to be seen, but it could be the key to a successful end to the campaign.
