JUST NOW – Journalist confirms Wear Ham’s decision on the signing of 24 goals, 9 assists Superstar keen on joining the Hammers as perfect Said Benrahma replacement

According to Florian Plettenberg, West Ham is not seriously considering a transfer of Steven Bergwijn in the January transfer window.

Sky Sports reporter X reported [on 7 January] that although the Dutchman is no longer an option for the Kladivarians, the club has other players on the transfer list.

Bergwijn joined Ajax in July 2022 from Tottenham Hotspur and made 65 appearances for the Eredivisie side, scoring 24 goals and nine assists.

Better players on the market

Bergwijn is a decent player, no doubt about that. Football fans everywhere remember his goal for Tottenham against Leicester City, when he scored the equaliser in the 90+5′ minute and the winning goal in the 90+7′ minute.

But the 26-year-old, who scored just eight goals in 83 appearances for the Spurs, never settled in England and left in a hurry for the Netherlands. The player seems to be at home in the Dutch league.

Despite a poor start to the season, which has gone down in Ajax history, Bergwijn scored eight goals and led by example as captain in an extremely difficult situation, and the former Eredivisie champions returned to fifth place in the league.

Although he fits the profile of a West Ham striker, with speed and agility similar to Jarrod Bowen and Mohamed Kudus, he is not on the same level or quality.

With Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals likely to leave the London Stadium, Bergwijn is a suitable choice to fill one of the gaps left by the duo. But if the Hammers have a list of potential transfers ready, it might be a wise decision to loan the Dutch winger to the club, especially if Lucas Paqueta suffers another injury or leaves London altogether.
