Micah Richards answered a question on whether West Ham could be a potential landing place for Jordan Henderson, as the midfielder would like to leave Al Ettifaq after a few months.
Jordan Henderson surprised and angered many when he decided to leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia in the summer transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, the 33-year-old cost Steven Gerrard £13 million. He earns around £350,000 a week in the kingdom. However, he now seems to have changed his mind about spending the end of his career in the Saudi professional league.
Micah Richards doesn’t think West Ham need Jordan Henderson:
Henderson seems to have won just about everything in his time at Anfield. Therefore, many teams will at least be discussing whether they want to make a move for the England international this month.
Micah Richards was asked on The Monday Night Club whether West Ham could be in the running to sign Henderson. But he insisted that David Moyes’ charges do not need the veteran.
“He’s not going to play. They have got Alvarez, Ward Prowse, who are unbelievable in the middle of the park. Henderson is a top player but he has moved on because his better years are behind him. If he was in the best shape of his life, he wouldn’t have gone there,” he said.
It’s not worth the effort for the Kladivars:
According to Sky Sports, Al Ettifaq won’t allow Henderson to leave on the cheap. This is certainly another factor that potential fans will have to take into account.
Henderson will turn 34 in the summer. While former teammate James Milner continues to prove that it is possible to play in the Premier League even in your late thirties, Henderson is now at a disadvantage, having been absent from the Premier League for several months.
In any case, Henderson would be a decent reinforcement for several Premier League clubs in this window.
But considering the potential sums and scrutiny that would befall him upon his return, it is certainly not worth it for West Ham, who are keen to move up the pecking order.
