After Tottenham loaned Tim Werner and Radu Dragusin for £26 million, Tottenham is wasting no time and is on to the next task.
Postecoglou wants Spurs to sign the contracts in early January:
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou expressed the importance of early January transfers for his team before the transfer window opened.
The Lilywhites head coach has been publicly convinced that president Daniel Levy and the club’s recruitment team need to get their business done quickly so that new players waste no time in joining his squad, which is fighting for a top-four finish.
“It’s a challenge, [but] the reason we want to do business early is the obvious situation we are in regarding injuries and the players we will miss,” Postecoglou said of Spurs’ January transfer plans.
“We have some important games in January and if we were to sign someone late in the month, it could mean that he wouldn’t be able to make an impact in those games.
“We are working hard but all parties have to agree. Other clubs, especially if it’s players they want [to keep], for their own reasons they will want to keep them as long as possible in January.
“It’s a challenge, I understand that, but everyone at the club is trying to get the best results for us and we’ll see how it goes.”
Tottenham officially announced the signing of former Chelsea striker Werner on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy for £15.5m earlier this week, while Spurs have also got Dragusin for around £26m and Djed Spence going the other way as a loan player (Fabrizio Romano).
The acquisition of a new central defender in particular is very welcome news for Postecoglou, as the injuries and suspensions of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero in the last few months have seriously exposed Tottenham’s lack of depth in this area. Dragusin comes into the N17 with a lot of promise, as the 21-year-old is in form and has played like a star in Genoa under Alberto Gilardino.

Recent reports suggest that midfield is another “priority” for Postecoglou, a view agreed by The Independent and reliable journalist Miguel Delaney. Delaney in fact writes that Spurs are “ahead” in their plans to sign another midfielder at X, while at the same time claiming in his article for the Independent that the club are “pressing” for this potential transfer immediately after Dragusin.
The north Londoners are keen to sign a fluid midfield ace who could rotate with Maddison if needed, so it will be interesting to see who they could bring in.
But who is the actor? Apparently it’s Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, who has been strongly linked to Spurs since the start of the January transfer window.

According to the Independent, they may have to offer £50 million if they manage to persuade the player to leave.

“The next target comes after Spurs finally agreed a fee to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.
“The £30m for the Romanian defender means Ange Postecoglou has secured two of his three targets in this window after completing a loan deal for Leipzig’s Tim Werner.
“Gallagher was the player who best suited the profile and Chelsea are willing to do a deal for the right price.
“That could be up to £50m, although more complications are possible. Gallagher has proven to be one of the players Mauricio Pochettino trusts most with his tactical ideas and is considered one of the few in the squad who is currently ideal for the Argentine’s 4-3-3 system.”
