BREAKING – Tottenham have the last laugh as Ange Postecoglou COMPLETES the SIGNING of Sensational star who Mauricio Pochettino desperately wanted at Spurs [Full Story]

Tottenham are close to acquiring a top striker, having first watched him in 2015.

Football is a very entertaining sport, especially when it comes to transfers. Cristiano Ronaldo was all set for a move to Arsenal when Arsene Wenger first snapped him up during his time at Sporting CP. Sir Alex Ferguson had to work magic to get him to move to Manchester United instead.

When you consider that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wanted Julian Brandt and Mario Gotze but the club insisted on Mohamed Salah, it is news that is intriguing to say the least. Tottenham are now in the middle of such intrigue.

While we are getting closer to securing the services of Tim Werner, albeit on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season, the German striker first attracted the attention of the Lilywhites in 2015. Spurs have begun talks with his employers. ( via Telegraph – login required ).

When he played for VfB Stuttgart, he caught the attention of then Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino. Werner, who played predominantly on the left at the time, scored three goals and one assist in 32 Bundesliga appearances in the 2014-15 season as a 19-year-old.

He has always had raw ability. Exceptional pace, physical strength and the versatility to fit in anywhere in the front three. However, it was only after his transfer to RB Leipzig that Werner made his name. After Stuttgart were relegated in 2016, the German international moved to Leipzig, where he was linked with Chelsea and Liverpool due to his top performances.

It all depends on the timing.
In the end, he joined the team from Stamford Bridge in 2020. In 2021, he won the Champions League with Chelsea. The raw ability that Tottenham recognised in 2015 has matured into a powerful force that has shown its prowess on the biggest stages. However, he was far from the finished product as he was far from clinical in front of goal. In 2022, he returned to Leipzig.

Fast forward to the present day and the carousel has brought Tim Werner back into Tottenham’s orbit. The Lilywhites are on the verge of taking the German striker on loan from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season, as Werner is about to complete a medical at Hotspur Way.

The same player who caught the attention of Mauricio Pochettino in 2015 is now close to donning the Lilywhites jersey under the guidance of Ange Postecolgou, albeit on a temporary basis. Werner could start on the wings for Tottenham in the absence of captain Son Heung-Min, but could also challenge Richarlison for the striker’s spot as he has distinct qualities.

Let’s see how things go for Werner in his second spell in London; but for another club. Let’s hope he brings joy and success to the fans and to himself.
