L’Équipe reports that Sergio Reguilón (27) is set to be loaned to Brentford from the Premier League until the end of the season.

Spanish international Reguilón has already been loaned out once this season, but failed to establish himself at Manchester United. He has played just 12 games in all competitions, making seven appearances. As a result, his loan spell with the Red Devils was terminated and he returned to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

But instead of staying in Ange Postecoglou’s team, he was to be loaned back immediately. According to L’Équipe, he is set to join London rivals Brentford, who are closing in on a deal to bring Real Madrid to the Community Stadium.

Reguilón, who is contracted to Tottenham Hotspur until 2025, will join the Bees, who are aiming to retain their Premier League status, until the end of the season. Brentford are currently 16th, just three points above the relegation zone.

Sergio Reguilon has had a difficult time recently. He has constantly battled injuries, from Tottenham Hotspur to a couple of loan clubs, but has been unable to make a more lasting impression due to physical problems.

The last of these was Manchester United, where he made a great first impression while deputising for Luke Shaw, until the same, familiar pattern emerged: injuries, and then he was dropped from the competition due to inconsistency, which led the Red Devils to send the Spaniard back to the N17.

Reports emerging today, however, suggest that another club is ready to give Reguilon the chance to reignite his Premier League career. L’Equipe (because why wouldn’t a French newspaper have information on a Spanish player moving between two English clubs?) and Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports are reporting that the Bees are interested in Reguilon on loan as they fight to stay above the relegation zone.

Brentford, like many other teams (including Spurs), have lost Bryan Mbeum, Yoanne Wiss, Ben Mee and (of course) Ivan Toney to injuries, suspensions and foreign departures this season.

A key absence for Spurs and Reguilon is that of Rico Henry, Brentford’s first choice left-back. Henry underwent surgery in September for a serious knee injury and is not expected to play again this season.
