Tottenham are willing to pay for Spanish defender Sergio Reguilon due to interest from Premier League rivals Brentford.

According to the Evening Standard, Brentford are considering taking the 27-year-old defender on loan until the end of the season.

Reguilon is under contract with the north London club until 2025. However, Ange Postecoglou does not include him in his first-team plans, so Spurs are keen to cash in.

The defender joined Spurs in 2020 in a £32 million deal from Real Madrid, but is out of favour. He joined Manchester United as a loan player at the start of the season, but his loan deal was terminated.

Brentford are prioritising the signing of a new left-sided defender and Reguilon has been highlighted as a possible option. The left-back could leave Spurs this month and it will be interesting to see if a deal can be reached to sell him.

Reguilon has emerged as a realistic option for Brentford. He moved to Old Trafford mainly as a replacement for Luke Shaw, but made only seven appearances under Erik Ten Hag. His loan was terminated and he returned to his parent club.

Brentford are short of options after Thomas Frank lost Rico Henry to a serious knee injury. Aaron Hickey is also out after suffering a serious thigh muscle injury in November.

In such a scenario, the transfer of Reguilon makes a lot of sense. He is redundant at the club and Postecoglou does not value him at all.

Destiny Udogie has become a key player under Postecoglou and has earned himself a starting place at left-back. Ben Davies is considered a reliable substitute. With Ryan Sessegnon back from injury, Spurs can afford to let Reguilon leave for Brentford (or elsewhere) without compromising squad depth.
