The English attacking midfielder is expected to return on 26 January after a three-month absence, possibly joined by Israeli winger Manor Solomon.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou could recall James Maddison for next week’s FA Cup match against Manchester City.
Postecoglou has been left without a number of attacking players and Maddison has been missing since injuring his knee against Chelsea in early November.
Tottenham return to training on Monday after the winter break, and Maddison hopes to start working with the group to be available for next Friday’s game with City.
The attacking midfielder has been out since early November with an ankle injury but is expected to return to action next week, reports The Telegraph. He could make his long-awaited return for the fourth round match against the reigning English champions.
Maddison has been a key player for Spurs since he joined them from Leicester in the summer transfer window. In 11 Premier League appearances, he scored three goals and five assists before being ruled out for almost three months.
Maddison is not the only reinforcement for Australian coach Postecoglou. Israeli winger Manor Solomon is also hoping to return to the squad for the main clash against City. The 24-year-old, who signed from Shakhtar before this season, made five league appearances before his injury in September.
Maddison’s return would be a big boost for Postecoglou and Tottenham as the England international was one of the Premier League’s best players before his injury.
Maddison is also Tottenham’s vice-captain and with Son Heung-Min absent at the Asian Cup, the former Leicester City player would have an important leadership role in Postecoglou’s team.
Although City have yet to win or score at Tottenham’s £1 billion stadium, Postecoglou is aware that his team faces a major challenge to progress in the FA Cup.
Solomon has been out of training since the end of September after a knee injury, and the winger has fallen on hard times following a terrorist attack in his native Israel and the subsequent conflict with Palestine.
Maddison and Solomon are hoping to avoid any complications as they continue their recovery from the injury and hope to return to action against Pep Guardiola’s team.
