Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier was on the bench for Bayern Munich, who lost their Bundesliga title on Sunday with a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Werder Bremen.
Former Bayern player Mitchell Weiser scored the only goal of the game when he shook off a challenge from Alphonse Davies and headed past Manuel Neuer after 59 minutes.
Thomas Tuchel’s charges could not recover and Harry Kane missed the target with a header later in the game.
It was the first time since 2020 – and in 66 games – that Bayern had not scored at home.
“Werder deserved to win,” Tuchel said after the game. “In 70 minutes we didn’t play like a team that wants to win, to fight for the title.
“We only managed to do that for 20 minutes. We allowed too many counter-attacks, we allowed too much space, we were sloppy. It’s a big failure for us and we have to improve on Wednesday (against Union Berlin).
“It’s not enough to achieve our goals. When you sign a contract with Bayern, you sign a 100 per cent contract. That applies to both the players and the coach, and today we didn’t live up to that.”
Bayern are now seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, although they have a game in hand over Xavi Alonso’s side.
Dier was named among the reserves but will have to wait for his first Bayern appearance since signing for Spurs at the start of the January transfer window.
