Insecure Paul Merson Mocks, Downplays Tottenham ahead of Man City clash as he tells Ange Postecoglou the TWO player he should NOT play together if he wants to AVOID an Embarrassing Scoreline at White Hart Lane

Tottenham’s midfield pairing was recently in the same breath as Manchester City’s treble-winning duo of Rodri and Kevin de Bruyne.

The outspoken Paul Merson, however, was having none of it, writing on Twitter that Tottenham’s two footballers are nothing like the Premier League champions.

James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur are undoubtedly important players for Ange Postecoglou.

Moreover, if they manage to stay fit until the end of the season, the club’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League next year are greatly increased.

Spurs are currently three points behind Aston Villa in fourth place and fifth in the standings.

Paul Merson, however, had a somewhat direct message for the Spurs fan who decided to draw a comparison between Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison and Rodrigo and Kevin de Bruyne.

James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur
“Take off your Tottenham glasses and please don’t put Bentancur and Maddison in the same breath as de Bruyne and Rodri…. I’m a big fan of Bentancur and Maddison but not near the other two,” Merson wrote.

James Maddison’s return:

All four players mentioned above will almost certainly be active on Friday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In the FA Cup, Postecoglou will host Man City in the fourth round. The teams drew 3-3 at the Etihad in December.

The good news for Spurs is that Maddison could rejoin the squad after an absence of several months, which would be a big boost for the group.

On the other hand, de Bruyne could start for the first time in a long time after his magnificent performance at St. James’ Park.
