FC Bayern sign Sacha Boey from Galatasaray. The 23-year-old French defender arrived in Munich on a contract until 30 June 2028.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the forthcoming contract by signing on Friday afternoon. 23-year-old Boey will join Bayern on a permanent basis and his flight to Munich and medical examination have already been arranged.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany revealed that Bayern will pay €28-29 million for the transfer.
Boey will sign a contract until 2029 and Plettenberg said the transfer is “a done deal”.
Boey deal prompts Arsenal transfer
Galatasaray have already started the process of finding a replacement and according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Arsenal could find Boey’s successor.
Jacobs revealed on X before Boey’s transfer to Bayern was agreed: “It is understood that Galatasaray have entered the race for Arsenal’s Cedric Soares.
“They want a permanent transfer and not a loan. Besiktas is still interested.”
A permanent transfer would be ideal for Arsenal as Cedric is out of contract in six months.
The fact that the Turkish giant is willing to receive a handy fee may also mean that Arsenal will be able to receive a fee for Cedric – albeit probably a small one.
The 32-year-old Cedric is pretty much at the bottom of the playing list at the Emirates, and with Thomas Partey back to fitness, Mikel Arteta has another option at right-back. Partey was successfully tested at right-back at the start of the season.
Arsenal have so far enjoyed a very quiet winter window with no signings and only one minor departure of Mike Biereth (Sturm Graz).
Cedric could soon become the first transfer in the Gunners’ squad this month, mainly thanks to the transfer of Boe to Bayern.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern: “We are delighted to have signed Sacha Boey on a long-term contract with a young player with great potential. He has performed very well in both Champions League matches against us. This means that we have not only improved our squad, but also added extra quality.”
Christoph Freund, FC Bayern Sporting Director: “Sacha Boey is a very fast and physically strong right-sided defender who covers a lot of space in every game and is not afraid of any confrontation. He was a fan favourite at Galatasaray, has developed very well in recent years, comes with Champions League experience and won the title with Galatasaray last season. He will increase our quality in defence.”
Sacha Boey: “This is a dream come true for me. It’s an honour to play for a big club like Bayern. I’m really looking forward to my new team and to playing with all these great players in the future. As a player, I am a defender who likes to attack, but I am also happy to be involved both up front and in defence.”
Boey was born in the Paris suburb of Montreuil and started playing football with FC Romainville and Red Star FC before joining Rennes’ academy in 2014. There, he made his senior debut in the French Ligue 1 in May 2019 at the age of 18. After a season on loan at Dijon, he signed for Galatasaray for the 2021/22 season. The Frenchman made 83 appearances for Istanbul, scoring four goals and winning the Turkish Süper Lig last summer.
