Ange Postecoglou says it is unlikely that Tottenham will make any more transfers this month amid rumoured interest in Conor Gallagher.
Spurs were the busiest EPL club in January, signing Radu Dragusin from Genoa for £26 million and loaning Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, while releasing a number of players, including Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic, either permanently or on loan.
Spurs admire Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and have been linked with a late transfer of the English centre-forward, and are among a number of leading clubs monitoring Swedish teenager Lucas Bergvall, who plays for Djurgardens.
Spurs winger Bryan Gil is being linked with a move to Brighton, although Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is expected to stay put after interest from Lyon.
Postecoglou refused to rule out a late deal before Thursday’s deadline, which expires at 11pm, but does not expect any new arrivals or departures at Spurs.
“It is unlikely that there will be any new deals,” Postecoglou said ahead of Wednesday’s game with Brentford. “I don’t see any arrivals. The outgoings are a little bit different because I’m not fully involved in that, other people are. I would say it’s unlikely on both fronts without ruling anything out.”
The Spurs will still miss Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon (both hamstring), Giovani Lo Celso (hamstring) and Alejo Veliz (knee) against the Bees, while Pape Sarr (set to return), Yves Bissouma and Heung-min Son remain on international duty.
However, Postecoglou expects Sarr to be available for Saturday’s game at Everton after his Senegal side crashed out of the African Cup of Nations on Monday and Son and Bissouma could also be available at Goodison Park.
On Tuesday, Bissouma’s Mali play Burkina Faso in an AFCON knockout match, while Son’s South Korea face Saudi Arabia in the last 16 of the Asian Cup.
“The latest I’ve heard [about Sarr] is that he is expected back tomorrow [Wednesday],” Postecoglou said.
“I’m disappointed for him because Senegal had ambitions to win the competition but he did well for them again, he’s a key member and it’s good from our side that he’s back. He should be fine after his arrival on Saturday.”
James Maddison is bidding to make his first appearance for Spurs since November after coming off the bench injured in Friday’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, but Postecoglou confirmed that Solomon has suffered problems recovering from knee surgery.
“[Maddison] was fine, he was fine,” the Australian said.
“We probably could have given him a little bit more playing time, but the way the game was going, we got him in a little bit later than we would have liked, but he came through it all right, he trained well, so he’s ready to play.
“[Solomon] had a few attempts, but it has to be said that he had a few failures. He had one this week as well, so he will be investigated further, I think at the beginning of next week.”
Postecoglou added: “We will try to win these two games and put teams on the pitch that can win games. That’s what I always focus on. It’s not about trying to get ahead of things in terms of whether someone is playing or not. Tomorrow night we will put out a team that we believe can win football and then I will focus on what we need to do for Saturday.”
