Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been linked with Liverpool, and Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge told GIVEMESPORT that the rumours at the club have remained without consequence.
Earlier this month, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp shocked the world by confirming that he would be leaving the Merseyside club at the end of the season. The German manager has won everything there is to win since arriving at Anfield, and Liverpool supporters will no doubt be horrified at what the future holds for them without the former Borussia Dortmund man.
Spurs fans may also be worried about what is next for Liverpool, especially if their future is linked to the Australian manager Postecoglou. The Tottenham manager has been linked with the soon-to-be-vacant Anfield job, and has previously admitted to supporting the Merseyside team as a child. However, Postecoglou only moved to north London in the summer and there is every chance that he will hope to continue to build something at Hotspur Way.
Postecoglou is being linked with a job at Liverpool:
According to the Times, after Klopp announced his departure before the end of the season, it has been suggested that Postecoglou could be attracted to the job when it becomes available. The article suggests that the Merseyside club are said to be impressed with his initial work after his arrival in the Premier League, so it would not be a surprise if he was on their list of candidates at the end of the campaign.
Worryingly for Spurs fans, Postecoglou has previously admitted to supporting Liverpool as a child…
“It was the 1970s, so you went one of two ways: it seemed at the time [in Australia] they were only showing Liverpool or Man United. Some of my best mates went for Man United, and I went the other way to make it interesting. Like every kid I had posters on the wall, so Liverpool was my team. But when you grow up, things change.”
Recruiting Postecoglou would certainly be a big risk for Liverpool given his lack of Premier League experience, especially when they have to follow in the footsteps of someone as successful in England as Klopp.
Michael Bridge – Tottenham are not worried about Liverpool links:
Bridge has hinted that Tottenham are not internally concerned about Postecoglou being linked with a Liverpool job. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Bridge said…
“It seems to me that the logical step would be Xabi Alonso. If it wasn’t Xabi Alonso, then maybe it would have opened up a bit more for Ange Postecoglou. Until then, I don’t think Spurs have much to worry about, I think people will say, well, he doesn’t stay long at many clubs. It’s true, but I think he always leaves clubs in great hands. Even in Australia, in Japan and even at Celtic he left them when they were dominating in Scotland. He has a job to do at Tottenham. He has only been here for less than one season. It seems to me that he is somehow enjoying his role here. He is part of a big transfer committee where he has the final say. He gets on well with the board and the chairman. So I do not think there are many concerns. I cannot say that I am 100% sure that he will stay if Liverpool come in, because the only person who knows that answer is Postecoglou. But I don’t think Spurs have too many concerns within the club.”
Spurs could opt for Aston Villa star
Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, according to The Athletic. The Midlands club could be forced to offload the academy graduate to help meet Premier League profit and sustainability regulations. The report adds that Bayern Munich are also keen on the England youth international.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed to GIVEMESPORT that Spurs are interested in Ramsey, but this is unlikely to happen in January. A transfer could take place in the summer and Villa would have enough time to find a replacement.
