Bryan Gil reportedly had plenty of interest in the January market, but the Spanish winger decided to stay in North London.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has promised Bryan Gil more first-team opportunities to showcase his talents in the second half of the campaign after the striker rejected several bids for his signature during the winter transfer window.
Bryan Gil and his problems at Tottenham
The 22-year-old winger joined Spurs in 2021 for £21 million. However, he struggled to settle in north London and was loaned to Spanish clubs Valencia and Sevilla in 2022 and 2023.
Gil was also available for a transfer to the club this winter, but opted to stay at Tottenham and fight for his place. Gil has had offers from back home, including Sevilla, and has also been linked with moves to Brighton, Brentford, Lazio and Fiorentina.
What now?
Despite not getting a chance in previous managerships, Bryan Gil believes he can still make a positive impression in the second half of the season and make a name for himself in the Premier League. Football Insider reports that Ange Postecoglou is ready to reward the 22-year-old’s desire to succeed in north London and give him more opportunities to showcase his talent.
Gil was on the bench again on Saturday at Goodison Park as Tottenham drew 2-2 with Everton, his 11th appearance in all competitions this season. However, he has yet to score a goal or an assist.
His chances of regular minutes this season also suffered a blow after the club first signed James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Brennan Johnson in the summer transfer window, and in January snapped up Tim Werner on loan from RB Leipzig.
Gil’s priority is to penetrate inside from the right. But for that role, Dejan Kulusevski and Johnson are ahead of him, although he can also play as a No 10, a position that Maddison has exploited when fit.
Although he avoided a move this time, Gil will have to consider a possible permanent move from Spurs in the summer if he fails to establish himself. The winger is 22 years old and at this point in his career should at least have a very good chance of playing week in week out, which he does not have at Tottenham at the moment.
