According to Fabrizio Romano, despite rumours, David Moyes and the West Ham board have still not made a final decision on the manager’s future.
The Italian transfer expert reported via CaughtOffside [14 February] that the “reality” of the situation is that a new contract for Moyes has been discussed at the London Stadium, but remains “fluid”.
Pressure is mounting on the Scot, with many fans hoping that the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal would be the final straw for the Kladivari manager, who has not won in seven consecutive games in all competitions.
The David Moyes saga continues at West Ham:
By all accounts, the West Ham board is still fully behind Moyes, who won the club’s first European title in decades and led the team to its current eighth place in the Premier League.
However, a significant number of Kladivar fans have started to turn against the manager, as evidenced by the mass exodus from the London Stadium on Sunday 11 February.
It seems that the losses are only part of the problem. West Ham are losing in a way that has seen them concede 10 goals in their last three games against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Arsenal.
A few weeks ago it seemed that the Hammers could break into the top four with a few good results. But the club is now much closer to the bottom half of the table and Moyes’ style of play is under scrutiny.
Something needs to change at West Ham. However, it is unlikely that Moyes will make a significant change at the moment, certainly by the summer.
Given the form of the teams around Kladivar, it would be difficult for them to break into the European places, so they could refocus their efforts on the Europa League. It seems that the decision will be made at the end of the season and not now.
