West Ham United boss David Moyes is fighting for his job at the London Stadium as fans continue to turn against the Scots following the Iron’s defeat at the hands of Arsenal.
It couldn’t have gone any worse for the Hammers against the Gunners, as Mikel Arteta and Declan Rice caused an uproar in east London that continued West Ham’s dismal recent run and increased the pressure on Moyes from the fans.
The 60-year-old now has four games to save his job and avoid being sacked [The Telegraph, 14 February], and in the first match the Ironmen take on struggling Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, a vital win not only for Moyes but also for the Hammers’ European hopes.
The Irons’ lack of goals has been a problem recently as they have relied too much on Jarrod Bowen to put the ball in the net, but that could change against Forest as Moyes will receive a welcome fitness boost.
Michail Antonio could return for West Ham:
Michail Antonio could return to the Hammers squad for the first time in three months after the Jamaican international hinted at his fitness on social media.
Antonio posted a video of himself playing for Forest on X on Wednesday (14 February) with the caption: “10 years since City ground at home! Something I’ve learned in that time is that this game is full of ups and downs, and it’s all about how you react to them. We have an important game this weekend and we’re coming ready.”
The 33-year-old’s suggestion that “we’re coming prepared” means he will be part of the Irons squad that will travel to the City Ground, and so he may be making his first appearance in a match since November.
Antonio may not have been particularly impressive in front of goal this season, but his return will be a big boost for Moyes, who is keen to show those in charge at West Ham that he deserves a new contract at the London Stadium.
Whether he is introduced from the bench or named in the starting eleven, the Jamaican’s presence in the top half of the pitch will only help Moyes as he looks to improve his side’s attacking output, with much of their play based on Antonio’s strengths.
