Ange Postecoglou says he still has a long way to go at Tottenham, while there are suggestions he could succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.
Postecoglou is one of the names being mentioned as a candidate to take over Liverpool, the club he supported as a child, when Klopp leaves at the end of the season.
The Spurs coach has impressed since taking charge in the summer and says he is just getting started at the north London club after signing a four-year contract.
“I’ve only been here seven months so I think it’s a given,” Postecoglou said ahead of Saturday’s away at Wolves.
“It pains me to stress that we still have a long way to go in terms of the football we want to play, the team we want to be and the squad we want to have.
“We’ve only had two positive windows, we’ve had a decent campaign so far, but there’s still a long way to go.”
Postecoglou refused to go into the rumours that Liverpool might actually be interested in him, but when asked directly he did not give a clear guarantee that he will still be at Spurs next season.
“The reality is that most of it is not in our hands,” the Spurs boss added. “That’s why I’ve never been worried about it or thought about it. I have a 26-year history of management in which you can see quite clearly what I do.
“I rely on that as an explanation of where my thought processes are when it comes to this kind of thing.
“Now it’s about finishing the season strongly with Tottenham and making sure we lay a solid foundation for who we want to be in the years to come.
“That can only happen if I’m fully focused on what these 14 games can bring us.”
