Barry Glendenning has a harsh comment on David Moyes’ response to another West Ham defeat after the 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 17 February.
The Scot has been under severe attack in recent weeks as West Ham have remained winless in eight games in all competitions, conceding 11 goals and scoring none in their last three games.
Calls for Moyes’ sacking have only intensified since their last win, 2-0 against Arsenal in December, and Glendenning believes his latest comments will only make matters worse.
Speaking live on talkSPORT on Sunday (18 February at 11:55), he said: ‘David Moyes gives a couple of interviews after the game that are reminiscent of delusions, and this was one of them.
“They weren’t even in the race at that game and there are West Ham fans who wish they hadn’t been. He points with some justification to his achievements as West Ham manager.
“He says: ‘I saved you from relegation twice, I got you to the European final, I won the Europa League Conference and we established ourselves as a team in the top half of the table’ – all of which is fair comment.
“But I don’t think it’s highlighting it for the second weekend in a row after another hiding, and it was a hiding, no matter what the result says.”
David Moyes on his way to being sacked at West Ham United?
There are two sides to every story, surely. Moyes has achieved a lot in his second term as West Ham manager and deserves the respect of the fans. However, the current disappointment is obvious and that is as it should be.
The Hammers have gone from being a top-four contender in the Premier League, competing for Europa League success, to a team that has no hope of achieving anything this season.
Since their last win against the Gunners in December, the London side have been knocked out of the FA Cup by first-placed Bristol City, drawn with Sheffield United and Bournemouth, and been thrashed without scoring by Manchester United and Arsenal.
Something needs to change drastically at the London Stadium as Moyes’ style of football has been widely criticised as positive results have dried up and West Ham are stuck in ninth place in the Premier League, 13 points clear of Aston Villa in fourth.
The injury to Lucas Paqueta has obviously had a big impact, but no team should be so dependent on the performance of one player.
