Journalist tells eager Hammers what he was told about Thomas Tuchel replacing David Moyes at West Ham after confirming that he’s leaving Bayern

Thomas Tuchel is, in Dean Jones’ opinion, a more suitable candidate than Rob Edwards to replace David Moyes at West Ham.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (21 February), the former Eurosport journalist said that he had recently asked someone well-connected at the London Stadium whether the Luton Town manager would be interesting, and that he had been “dismissed out of hand”.

But when he mentioned Tuchel, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, he added that he got “a much more positive answer”.

“I think West Ham want Tuchel,” Jones said. “It’s more about the profile of the manager they will be looking for when they get over David Moyes.

“They will continue to look for someone who has a good reputation in the game and also from a very senior, established position.

“One of the ideas I threw to someone recently who has good links with West Ham was whether they might be interested in someone like Rob Edwards at Luton if that became a possibility at the end of the season.

“That was turned down because he simply doesn’t have the right profile for the job. When I mentioned someone like Tuchel, I got a much more positive response.”

Thomas Tuchel could be the ideal candidate for West Ham:

Edwards has undoubtedly done a great job at Luton, but appointing him at West Ham might be too big a risk at the moment.

If the Hammers decide to move away from Moyes, they will bring in someone with the pedigree to take them to the next level.

Tuchel, after his work with Chelsea, where he won the Champions League in 2021, and his work with other big clubs across Europe, certainly fits the bill.

The appointment of the German would certainly excite Irons fans, but there is still a long way to go as Moyes’ future is still up in the air.

Other names are also in play, with Graham Potter and Julen Lopetegui said to be on the shortlist of potential candidates at the London Stadium.
