In the summer, Spurs signed young forward Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central on a six-year contract for a transfer fee of around €15 million.
The Argentine striker has made eight appearances in the English Premier League this campaign, but has only spent 42 minutes on the pitch.
Despite his first-team appearances, the club decided to loan Veliz to Sevilla for the rest of the season in the January window to help his development.
On Sunday, the Spanish club will take on Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and the youngster is eager to prove himself in the match.
AS newspaper (via Sport Witness) spoke to the player ahead of the game, and the Argentina U-20 international was ambiguous about his future.
Asked whether he will stay at Sevilla beyond the end of this season, Veliz was not clear:
“I don’t know what will happen. Time will tell if I stay. For a start, Sevilla and its fans have to be happy with me because I am happy to have come here and I hope many good things will happen to me.”
This is not the first time a Tottenham player has gone to Sevilla on loan. Just last winter, he joined right winger Bryan Gil, also at his former club, on loan until the end of the season.
We also asked Veliz if Gil convinced him to go to Sevilla, to which he replied:
“We came during the break. Tottenham gave us the weekend off, I was there on my own and Bryan asked me to come. When the opportunity came up, I didn’t hesitate a bit.”
Veliz undoubtedly possesses talent, and if he continues to fulfil his potential on his current path, he could prove to be a great signing for Spurs.
