Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher comments on his future amid reports linking him with Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea underwent a major overhaul in the summer, spending more than £1 billion on signings since Todd Boehly took over in 2022 to balance the books.
Initially, Gallagher was expected to leave the Blues amid reports linking him with Premier League rivals Tottenham. That deal did not go through as Spurs were unwilling to pay £50 million for the centre-forward, whose contract expires in 2025.
Chelsea have struggled this season, losing to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Gallagher has been one of the better players this season and has been Chelsea’s captain for most of this campaign. He has scored nine goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.
He has not yet renewed his contract, but insisted that he “wants to keep playing” for Chelsea because they have offered him everything he “ever wanted”.
“We have a really young squad, a lot of talent, a great manager, great coaches who want nothing but the best for us,” Gallagher told Sky Sports.
“I really want to be a big part of that and hopefully we can get Chelsea back to where they belong.
“I’ve got a year and a half left on my contract and I’d love to play under the manager. To play almost every game is incredible and it’s all I’ve ever wanted.
“Last season I was in and out of the team and that didn’t make it as enjoyable, and I didn’t play great when I was either.
“I just want to keep playing as much as I can for Chelsea, keep trying to improve the club and try to be successful at Chelsea. That’s definitely my plan.”
Mauricio Pochettino said after Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool that his team should look to Jurgen Klopp’s team as they try to “compete for big things”.
“To compete at this level with this team that has been competing for big things for the last five, six, seven years, you have to come here and then feel what it means to play for a big trophy,” Pochettino told reporters.
“I remember after three or four years in Liverpool they lost the Champions League, the Europa League, but they kept believing and kept moving the project (forward) and worked harder the next season until they got what they wanted.
“This is a good example. If we want to defy a team like Liverpool, we should not be disappointed today because we didn’t get the trophy. It’s about setting an example that we have to keep believing.”
