The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been among the first names in Daniel Farke’s squad this season, beating club captain Liam Cooper and upcoming England youth international Charlie Cresswell to become first choice in the centre of defence.
Rodon’s contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the season, although both player and club seem set to make his stay a little more permanent when all is said and done in 2023/24.
Speaking to Welsh TV station Sgorio, Rodon, along with his international teammates, discussed the ‘journey’ that led to their arrival at Elland Road, where the Whites currently boast the best defence in the Championship, located on home turf, with automatic promotion still very much in sight.
“Playing is obviously what everyone wants, but I think it would be a really nice trip if we got there [to the Premier League],” Rodon said. “Considering the journeys we’ve all been on that have brought us to this moment now, I think it would be great for the collective and for all of us to play together in the Premier League.”
Rodon, of course, will only be able to represent Leeds in the Premier League if United make his transfer permanent in the summer or if they agree a second season loan deal. Roberts’ contract with Burnley will also need to be made permanent or extended if Rodon is to fulfil his ambition of stepping on the pitch in League One with his trio of Welsh teammates.
“I think when the opportunity arose to be part of something even bigger than promotion at the end of the season, I would do it with these guys,” Roberts said. “Hopefully we’ll be standing at Elland Road with the Welsh flag flying and a few medals around our necks. That’s the ultimate goal.”
