Amidst speculation about David Moyes’ future at West Ham, Graeme Bailey has shared insights indicating that Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is not a top contender for the managerial position, as reported by Boro News.
While Moyes has steered West Ham to success in the Conference League and secured safety from relegation, some fans express a desire for a managerial change in London.
Despite the exceptional job done by Moyes at the London Stadium, there are ongoing discussions about potential successors, and Carrick has previously been linked to the top job.
The former Manchester United midfielder, who commenced his professional career with West Ham, seemed a likely candidate during his successful first campaign in charge. The conclusion of the 2022/23 season saw Middlesbrough finish fourth, reaching the playoffs, yet ultimately falling short and remaining in the Championship.
The current season has presented challenges for Middlesbrough, diminishing their playoff prospects. However, Carrick remains in charge and is potentially poised to sign a new contract.
Graeme Bailey, shedding light on West Ham’s managerial considerations, clarified that Carrick is not currently a primary target. According to Bailey, Carrick is content at Middlesbrough, and West Ham is exploring alternative, more prominent options to replace Moyes.
“He’s happy here [Middlesbrough].
“I don’t think particularly he’s on anyone’s list at the moment; he’s always linked to West Ham but my understanding is West Ham have got some bigger targets to replace Moyes at the moment.
“I think that’ll get done [new Middlesbrough contract for Carrick] before the start of next season.”
While Carrick’s managerial journey has faced setbacks this season, with challenges like the departure of key players and the adaptation period for new signings, remaining at Middlesbrough allows him to accumulate valuable experience and learn from mistakes.
Bailey suggests that a new contract for Carrick at Middlesbrough is likely before the start of the next season, emphasizing the manager’s developmental phase at the Riverside.
Despite the attractiveness of the London Stadium, Carrick’s current position at Middlesbrough provides a conducive environment for further growth and experience accumulation.
Moving to West Ham might be an attractive prospect, but Bailey suggests it may not be the opportune moment for Carrick to make such a transition.
