Gabby Agbonlahor has provided a preview of Sunday’s Championship play-off final between Leeds United and Southampton, suggesting that Leeds manager Daniel Farke could be at risk of losing his job if his team fails to secure promotion.

The play-off final, often dubbed the most lucrative game in football, offers the winner an immediate return to the Premier League following relegation. Both Leeds and Southampton are eager to reclaim their top-flight status, making this clash at Wembley highly anticipated.

Agbonlahor told TalkSPORT (Thursday, 6.50AM) that the intense pressure on both clubs to secure promotion could result in managerial changes for the losing side.

“It’s a 50-50 for me, whoever turns up on the day,” Agbonlahor remarked. “David Wagner was fired, and I wouldn’t be surprised if whomever loses on Sunday had their manager fired. It is ruthless.” He added, “Leeds have more pace up front with Summerville and Gnonto. Southampton play excellent aggressive football, therefore it will undoubtedly be a fascinating game.”

The discussion about Farke’s future has also involved former players Danny Mills and Lee Sharpe. Mills recently stated that it would be “ridiculous” for the 49ers Enterprises, the owners of Leeds, to sack Farke if they lose the final. Lee Sharpe concurred, arguing that Farke should be given the chance to build something substantial at the club.

Farke himself has acknowledged the challenging task of achieving promotion in his first season. Reflecting on the season, he admitted that if asked in September about Leeds’ promotion prospects, he would have been skeptical. However, he now has a genuine opportunity to guide Leeds back to the Premier League.
