Celtic winger Sead Haksabanovic has officially left the club, joining Swedish champions Malmo this afternoon.

Signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2022, Haksabanovic was brought in to add width to the Celtic attack. However, after a season of inconsistent performances, his frustrations became evident.

At the beginning of Brendan Rodgers’ second tenure at Celtic, the Montenegro international took to social media to voice his displeasure at not being ‘valued’ at the club, signaling the beginning of the end of his Hoops career.

Haksabanovic was subsequently sent out on loan to Stoke City, where he made 21 appearances, scoring once and providing one assist, struggling to prove his worth to the Championship side. Upon returning to Celtic in the summer, Haksabanovic has now sealed his exit from Parkhead and penned a farewell message to the Hoops supporters.

In a message to the fans, the 25-year-old seemed to express surprise at his departure and used social media to take another subtle dig at Brendan Rodgers. Haksabanovic stated on Instagram, “So my time at Celtic has come to an end, earlier than I thought, expected & wanted but some other people had another opinion & I gotta respect that.

“I wanna thank the players, the staff & the fans because that is really what Celtic is about. We made some good memories together & I will always have love for Celtic. Good luck & Celtic are f—–g massive everywhere they go. All the best for the future.”

In his first full season under Ange Postecoglou, the Swedish-born winger failed to establish himself as a regular first-team player. In 42 appearances, Haksabanovic did not complete a full 90-minute game in the green and white Hoops, often being used as an impact player or failing to make a significant difference when he started. According to Transfermarkt, he registered five goals and four assists, a disappointing return for the player.

Now that he has left Celtic, Haksabanovic has the opportunity to revive his domestic career and his flailing international one with Malmo. His departure marks a new chapter for both him and Celtic, as the club continues to rebuild under Rodgers’ management. Meanwhile, Malmo gains a player eager to prove his worth and rediscover the form that once made him a promising talent.
